How Much Does Drone Photography Cost in Minnesota?
A plain breakdown of what commercial drone photography actually costs in Minnesota, what drives the price, and what to watch out for when comparing quotes.

Drone photography pricing in Minnesota varies widely, and the variation is not always explained by quality. This is a guide to what actually drives the cost, the difference between a budget operator and a professional one, and what to look for when you are comparing proposals.
Why there is no single price
Aerial work is quoted by scope because two projects that both sound like "a drone shoot" can require wildly different amounts of work. A handful of lightly edited stills for a social post is a different job than a multi-location video production with a color-graded hero film, vertical social cuts, and ad-ready thumbnails. The flying is the small part. The planning, the right light, and the post-production are where the real time goes.
Operators also sit at very different levels. A part-time operator with consumer gear and minimal editing is not the same hire as a Part 107-certified, fully insured professional who can plan around controlled airspace and deliver an organized, finished library. The gap shows up in the result far more than in the line item.
That is why we quote every project individually rather than publish a rate card. You tell us the property, the goal, and the timeline, and we come back with a recommended scope and a clear written proposal that covers exactly what is included.
What drives the cost
Travel distance from the operator's home base is the most common driver in the northern Minnesota market. Most operators add a flat trip fee for anything beyond their primary service zone. Get that confirmed in writing before you commit.
Deliverable count and production scope are the next biggest factor. A shoot that produces a large finished photo set, an edited hero video, several social clips, and ad-ready thumbnails takes far more post-production time than a small batch of lightly edited photos, and the proposal reflects that.
Turnaround time matters. Standard commercial delivery is typically five to seven business days. Rush delivery is available but takes priority scheduling. If you have a hard deadline, say so up front. The earlier you ask, the easier it is to accommodate.
Airspace complexity affects some projects. Shoots near controlled airspace around Bemidji Regional, Brainerd Lakes Regional, or Duluth International require authorization and coordination. A reputable operator handles this as part of the project, but it takes time to do properly.
What should make you skeptical of a rock-bottom quote?
An unusually cheap quote for commercial work is almost always a signal of something missing: no commercial liability insurance (a serious exposure if something goes wrong on your property), no Part 107 certification (required for all commercial drone operations), or post-production that amounts to exporting files rather than editing them.
Insurance is non-negotiable for commercial property work. If your property is damaged during a shoot by an uninsured operator, your homeowner's or commercial property insurance may not cover the claim. Ask every operator for a Certificate of Insurance before they fly.
Part 107 certification is required by the FAA for commercial drone operations. An uncertified operator flying on your property is flying illegally. This is not a bureaucratic technicality. It affects your liability exposure if the flight causes an incident.
How we quote a project
We do not publish a rate card, because a fixed rate either overcharges the simple project or shortchanges the complex one. Instead, every project gets a written proposal built around what it actually needs.
Tell us the property or site, what you want the imagery for, and any deadline. We respond within one business day with a recommended scope and a clear proposal that lays out the deliverables, the travel, and the timeline before anything is booked. No pressure, no hidden internal rate, and no surprises.
If you are weighing us against a cheaper quote, we are happy to walk through what is in each so you can compare clearly. We would rather lose a project than overpromise a scope we cannot deliver.
